Hamill Hockey

We are excited to announce that we have a new hockey program available for skaters ages 5-18, that will be under the direction of GHS & Greenwich Cardinals Youth Hockey Coach, Neal Rich. Hamill Hockey offers 5 different level classes for beginners through elite hockey players. This program will be offering skill-based and developmental classes for those interested in pursuing the sport, or those who are looking for additional hockey practice to accelerate the progress of their skills. The sessions for each class will be offered either 1 or 2 days a week based on the level, and will incorporate drills, stations, and full ice game situations for the higher levels. Coach Neal, along with other hockey coaches from the area, are excited to share their passion and love for the sport with those enrolled in this program.

Eligiblity: Co-Ed 5 - 18 years. Please see the information for each program.

Dates: Hockey Programs run from Thursday, October 17, 2024 to Saturday, March 1, 2025.
(No sessions Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day.)

Learn to Skate Hockey Activity # 32207
Our Learn-to-Play Hockey Program is designed for children ages 5 to 14, with little to no experience, who have an interest in learning to play hockey. This class will offer skill appropriate drills and concentrate on teaching the fundamentals of skating, which will include: strides, basic hockey stance, stopping, use of edges, power turns, balance and more. It is important for these players to become comfortable on the ice and learn these basic skills before moving into a learn to play hockey program. The focus and goal of Learn-to-Play is to introduce skating and hockey skills, as well as instill confidence in these players who are interested in pursuing the sport. All participants MUST pass our Basic 1 Learn to Skate program before they are eligible to enter our Learn to Play Hockey program. This class will be strictly zero contract.

Equipment required for Learn-to-Skate is: hockey skates, helmet & gloves. Shin guards/knee pads and elbow pads recommended.

Beginner Hockey Activity # 32208
Our Beginner Hockey program is designed for children 5-14 years old, who have experience skating on the ice and are looking to begin their hockey journey. The objective of this program is to refine your child’s skating mechanics, while beginning to learn basic hockey skills. Each class will offer instructional on ice training to teach the fundamentals of hockey, such as: stick handling, puck control, passing, shooting and more. The goal of this program is to provide a fun, positive and safe experience for aspiring hockey players to help them succeed both on and off the ice. This class will also provide families an opportunity to become familiar with and join the hockey community. Beginner Hockey is also geared towards hockey players who are at a Mite to Squirt level, looking for additional practice to accelerate the progress of their skills.

This class requires full hockey equipment: hockey skates, helmet with face shield, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, athletic supporter, and hockey stick.

Intermediate Hockey Activity # 32209
Our Intermediate Hockey program is designed for children 8-12 years old, who have at least 2 years of hockey experience. This is a developmental program that offers the opportunity for players to improve their skills in a more competitive hockey environment. The goal of this program is to give these players the best opportunity to focus on their continued skill development, and to begin transferring their skills and concepts from practices to games, advancing their level of play. There will be individual drills and group interactions with moderate contact; however, there will be no body checking in this class. Intermediate Hockey is also geared towards hockey players who are at a Squirt/ Pee Wee level, looking for additional practice to accelerate the progress of their skills.

This class requires full hockey equipment: hockey skates, helmet with face shield, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, athletic supporter, and hockey stick.
NECK GUARDS AND MOUTH GUARDS ARE MANDATORY!

Advanced Hockey Activity # 32210
Our Advanced Hockey Program is for children ages 12 & up, who have at least 2 years of travel hockey experience. The goal of this program will be to continue working on fundamentals with concentrated focus on preparing for the next level of hockey, whatever that may be for the individual. We will incorporate drills, small area games and full ice game simulations. The players will be pushed to their limits to exceed expectations and continue to grow, learn, and evolve as an athlete. Advanced Hockey is also geared towards Bantam level hockey players and is designed to be fast paced with high intensity. This is a full body contact program; therefore full hockey equipment is required.

Full hockey equipment includes: hockey skates, helmet with face shield, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, athletic supporter, and hockey stick.
NECK GUARDS AND MOUTH GUARDS ARE MANDATORY!

Registration: Online registration begins September 1 and closes December 31 or when the program has filled; space is limited.

Residency may be submitted after January 1 and must be verified prior to registration, (if not previously provided for this year); please allow up to five (5) business days.

Beginning September 15, non account holders, may mail in the Registration Form and required documents.

General Activity Waitlist Policy
Once maximum enrollment has been reached for activity registration, a participant may elect to be placed on a waitlist. Should additional registration spots become available, those on the waitlist will be contacted in numerical order. Once contacted, if the person is still interested in enrollment in the activity, they will have two business days to make payment for the activity fee. If complete payment is not made within two business days, that person will be removed from the waitlist and the next person on the waitlist will be contacted. If the waitlisted person is no longer interested in registering for the activity, then the next person on the waitlist will immediately be contacted. Additionally, if the waitlisted person declines to respond to the Department of Parks and Recreation within two business days, the next person on the waitlist will be contacted.
