Girls Softball - Intermediate and Senior Divisions - 10501

Intermediate and Senior Divisions The emphasis is on education, skill development, participation for players at all levels of athletic ability, and to ensure the participants have FUN.

Eligibility: :The Town of Greenwich Girls Softball League is organized according to age: 9 & 10 years (10U), 11 & 12 years (12U), 13 & 14 years (14U). All players in elementary school ages 11 & under will participate on a house team (recreational/modified rules) and be placed in the Intermediate Division. Those that are in middle school ages 11-14 will have the option to participate on a house team or in our Senior Division, or tryout for an opportunity to participate on one of the travel teams (12U or 14U).

Intermediate division is designed for girls ages 9 & 10 as well as any 11 year-old that is currently enrolled in the elementary school. Among teammates of the same experience level, players continue building and refining their fundamental skills while they begin to understand game strategy. The game is played on a 60-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 35 feet. This is a combined player-coach pitch league.

Senior division is designed for girls with prior experience playing softball at a more refined level. This division will consist of ages 11 (who are in the middle school) and ages 12 thru 14. The game is played on a 60-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 40 feet. This is a player-pitch only division and a twelve-inch ball is used. Players in this division continue building and refining their fundamental skills, defining set positions, and applying game strategies.

Travel division is for middle school girls ages 11&12 years (12U) and 13 & 14 years (14U) with previous experience participating on an official rules tournament team or currently participating on the Firebirds Town travel team. They will have a larger commitment to travel during the spring season with other more competitive fast-pitch softball teams. (Select the option during registration if you’re interested in the travel team).

Schedule: Practices begin on April 6 (depending on field conditions) with games beginning on April 13 and continuing until June 1. June 8 & 15 will be used for make-ups if needed. Intermediate Division games will be played mainly on Saturday mornings at 11:30 a.m. with the occasional weeknight game at 6 p.m. Senior Division games will be played mainly on Saturday afternoons at 1:45 p.m. with the occasional weeknight game at 6 p.m. Players participating on a travel team will play weekends with a schedule to be announced closer to the start of the season, & may continue playing after June 10 but finish no later than the week of July 4. Throughout the season, practices will be scheduled at the discretion of coaches.

Location: Various Town fields including, but not limited to, Teufel Field, Bruce Park, Glenville School, Moretti # 1, G.H.S., & E.M.S. # 2.

Fees: Greenwich Resident $182, Non-Resident $202. There are no refunds and we do not prorate fees. Requests for credit will only be considered if received in writing, prior to the start of the program. There is a $20 administrative fee for credits and a $25 fee for any returned checks.

Participant Information: Players must bring their own glove, bat, and water bottle (Team helmets provided, but may bring own). Helmets must have protected face cage. Team catcher’s gear is provided. No metal cleats. Team shirts and socks will be provided. Pants, shorts, and/or sliders must be purchased separately.

Teams: Requests for team assignments are not guaranteed and will only be considered if submitted 3 weeks prior to the program start date. Players will be assigned to a house/rec team based on age and school/home location. Final teams will be confirmed after coaches’ meeting. Our aim is to balance teams while also providing a fun experience for players. Volunteer coaches with a child registered will coach the team to which his/her child has been assigned..

Beginning February 15, Non-Resident may mail in the Registration Form and required documents. Please only mail in a current year Registration Form. Previous year remains available for information only.

Youth Scholarship Program: Parks and Recreation has established a youth scholarship program which provides financial assistance to qualifying residents.

Volunteer Coaches: are essential to this program; without them there is a possibility your child may not have a team to play on.
Acceptance of ALL applicants and number of teams depends on the number of coaches.
Sign up is available during registration.
Team coaches will also be subject to a background check.
Anyone interested in being a coach must attend the scheduled meeting.

Sponsors: Anyone who would like to sponsor a team should email Andrew Karen .
The cost is $500 and the proceeds benefit the Recreation Fund. Checks must be made payable to the “Greenwich Parks and Recreation Foundation.” Sponsors will receive their logo and/or business information on the team uniform, the league schedule, and logo with hyperlink on our sports recreation website.

General Activity Waitlist Policy
Once maximum enrollment has been reached for activity registration, a participant may elect to be placed on a waitlist. Should additional registration spots become available, those on the waitlist will be contacted in numerical order. Once contacted, if the person is still interested in enrollment in the activity, they will have two business days to make payment for the activity fee. If complete payment is not made within two business days, that person will be removed from the waitlist and the next person on the waitlist will be contacted. If the waitlisted person is no longer interested in registering for the activity, then the next person on the waitlist will immediately be contacted. Additionally, if the waitlisted person declines to respond to the Department of Parks and Recreation within two business days, the next person on the waitlist will be contacted.
