Small Fry I - 10400

Small Fry 1 is an instructional league for 6 year-olds that incorporates coach pitching and using the tee if necessary. Coaches will pitch to the players on their team. If a participant does not put the ball in play after 5 pitches, the tee will be utilized to hit. Game rules are modified (Ex: There are no strike outs) for the development of this age group. This activity will meet on Saturday afternoons only. Practice will precede a 3- inning game. Total time for practice and game is 1.5 hours.

Eligibility: MUST be 6 years old on/before April 30, 2024. Children 5 years of age, NOT turning 6 on/before April 30, 2024 can participate in the T-Ball League and 7 year-olds can enroll in the Small Fry II League. Small Fry II is a little more advanced. Copy of birth certificate or legal guardianship is required for those who have not participated in a Town recreation sponsored activity previously.

Schedule: Six-week program on Saturdays starting April 13 through June 1 (Subject to change due to field conditions, rain, or other circumstances beyond our control). Practices and games will be on Saturdays between the hours of 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Each team will have practice time followed by a modified game. Participants will receive a schedule with team appointment and playing times for the season prior to the first day.

Location: Barradas field next to the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center.

Fees: Greenwich Resident $107 and Non-Resident $127. There are no refunds and we do not pro-rate fees. Requests for credit will only be considered if received in writing, prior to the start of the program. There is a $20 administrative fee for credits and a $25 fee for any returned checks.

Participant Information: Must wear sneakers or baseball cleats (rubber bottom only). Participants must supply their own fielding glove and helmet (no face mask required on the helmet). Official bat provided per team to share, however participants may bring their own bat. All personal equipment should be labeled. Team shirts and hats will be provided.

Teams: Every effort is made to assign players to a team based on school and/or home address location. We make NO GUARANTEES but will try to handle special requests or accommodations on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Our aim is to balance teams while also providing a fun experience for the children. Volunteer coaches with a child registered will coach the team to which their child is assigned.

Youth Scholarship: Parks and Recreation has established a youth scholarship program which provides financial assistance to qualifying residents.

Volunteers are essential to this program; without them there is a possibility your child may not have a team to play on.
Sign up is available during registration.
Acceptance of ALL applicants and number of teams depends on the number of coaches.
Team coaches will also be subject to a background check.

General Activity Waitlist Policy
Once maximum enrollment has been reached for activity registration, a participant may elect to be placed on a waitlist. Should additional registration spots become available, those on the waitlist will be contacted in numerical order. Once contacted, if the person is still interested in enrollment in the activity, they will have two business days to make payment for the activity fee. If complete payment is not made within two business days, that person will be removed from the waitlist and the next person on the waitlist will be contacted. If the waitlisted person is no longer interested in registering for the activity, then the next person on the waitlist will immediately be contacted. Additionally, if the waitlisted person declines to respond to the Department of Parks and Recreation within two business days, the next person on the waitlist will be contacted.
